Good News Stories

The team wanted to share the positive work that have been working on in your local area over the last week. This is the work that the teams of Beckenham Town and Copers Cope, Clock House, Kelsey and Eden Park and Shortlands and Park Langley have been a part of.

This week the team have been part of a new proactive neighbourhood’s initiative, which allows the teams to focus on anti-social behaviours and volume crime across the wards. Volume Crime can include robbery, burglary, shoplifting, vehicle crime, criminal damage and drugs. This is being tested across Bromley allowing for our teams to have more access to resources such as marked vehicles and more officer numbers.

Kelsey and Eden Park Team have had a positive engagement with residents on how best to target Drug use in Harvington Recreational Ground and the surrounding roads. Officers have also been in contact with residents on Eden Park Avenue, Village Way & Merlin Grove to target vehicles and eBike/eScooters driving dangerously and causing Anti-Social Behaviour. Tesco Superstore, Elmers End reported a large amount of youths going into the store and shoplifting. We are working with Tesco’s to identify the individuals and deal with them accordingly.

Beckenham Town & Copers Cope Team hosted a drop-in surgery at Waitrose, Beckenham on Wednesday. It was a good turn out and a good chance to discuss Met Engage and the positive outcomes and communication it can bring. Officers also attended a block of flats in Porchester Mead, Southend Road, Beckenham after Cannabis was reported in the block. Officers engaged with residents and spoke to the building manager. A meeting has been set up to advise on the effects of Cannabis and how it can affect your tenancy. On Thursday, Officers attended a friendship group at St Pauls Church, Brackley Road to engage with elderly residents and advise them on effective ways to safeguarding themselves.

Shortlands & Park Langley Team engaged with residents on Wednesday at a weekly Community Café at St Mary Church, Shortlands. The team also engaged with a block management company and its directors after reports of someone smoking Cannabis was reported in a block of flats on Maze Hill Road. The area was patrolled by Officers and there have been no more reports of Cannabis from residents. Officers also hosted conducted a Cuppa With A Copper on Thursday at Costa Coffee on Westmorland Road.

Clockhouse Team assisted Immigration in an operation in Penge to carry out checks on moped delivery drivers. In line with their local ward priorities 4 males were detained and then later arrested for immigration offences. 1 moped was seized for no insurance.

All four teams underwent eBike Training a couple of weeks ago, this training provided the teams with more knowledge around the legislation around E Bikes, and what to look for when we are dealing with them. This came in very handy when on Monday the team carried out an ANPR operation across all four wards on numerous roads around Beckenham. Also in attendance was our Inspector Ma’am Pryal. Over 400 vehicles were speed tested. The highest reported speed was 43mph, 4 drivers were reported for numerous driving offences. 1 Vehicle and 1 eBike was seized for having no insurance.

Crime Prevention Advice

With the warmer weather, sunny days can prove a viable time for opportunistic burglars, as they look for easy targets.

So while you’re enjoying the summer weather, please remember these simple tips to keep your home and belongings safe:

·  Never leave your front door unlocked. Don’t leave windows open in unoccupied rooms, especially in those which are easily accessed from public areas.

·  Don’t leave valuables on show.

·  When sorting the garden ready for the summer, don’t leave your equipment out when you are inside or aren’t at home – lock it up securely.

·  If you’re going on holiday and planning to post on social media, ensure your posts aren’t public. You may be advertising that your home is empty. Also set your burglar alarm if you have one and consider setting lights and/or a radio on a timer.
